A girl remained hospitalized in serious condition Monday with a head injury after falling off a car Friday.
Sophia S. Copeland, 15, was sitting on the trunk of the vehicle, in the Lakeland High School parking lot in the 200 block of Kenyon Road, said police spokesman Mike Simpkins. Another teen-ager, Shalonda M. Smith, drove off in the car, and Copeland fell off and hit her head on the pavement about 5:30 p.m., Simpkins said.
Friends took Copeland to Obici Hospital, where she was treated for a massive head injury, police said. She was transferred to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where she was in the neuro-intensive care unit Monday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
