Kent Haskett, a Norfolk resident, is looking for help in starting a work camp in Norfolk similar to a Petersburg-based ministry, Tri-Cities Work Camps.
In the camps, which are held in the summer, teens 14 to 18 years old repair the homes of elderly and low-income residents.
The teens are trained in basic repair skills and work on projects such as tearing down walls, hanging sheet rock, repainting rooms and exteriors, replacing floors, putting down linoleum, and rebuilding porches and stairs.
Haskett said that starting a work camp in Norfolk will take the cooperation of the entire community - government, businesses and residents.
He will need a place to store building supplies and a place to house the teens and their chaperones. He also needs volunteers to help feed them teens.
To help, contact Kent Haskett at Virginia Heights Baptist Church, 1251 Kempsville Road, Norfolk, Va. 23502, or call 461-5107. by CNB
