JAMES OTTER

James ``Gil'' Otter, 74, of the 1000 block of Charity Drive, died Sept. 17, 1996, in a local hospital. He was a member of Bayside Christian Church.

Mr. Otter was a retired inspector of the U.S. Secret Service. He came to Norfolk in 1960 to open the first Secret Service office in this area. He returned to the Washington, D.C. office in 1966 where he later retired.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mildred Weber Otter; two daughters, Sherry, and husband, Iris Stillman of Chesapeake, Susan L. Otter of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, Scott and Stacey Bocrie of Chesapeake; two step-granddaughters, Michele and husband, Mike Robinson and Stephine and husband, Robert Tomlinson, all of Virginia Beach; a step-grandson, Derak Stillman of Virginia; five great-grandchildren all of Virginia Beach; a brother-in-law, Robert Erdman of Ocean City, Md.; two nieces, Roberta Erdman of Cockeysville, Md., Jane Welsh of Ocean City; a sister-in-law, Vernelle Otter of West End, N.C.; and nephew, Craig Otter of Dublin, Ohio; and a host of other loving relatives in Maryland and Wisconsin.

The family requests no flowers. If you wish, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society. A visitation will be today from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Rosewood Chapel of Kellum Funeral. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the chapel. The Rev. Raymond B. Good will conduct the service. Entombment will be private.
