A Nansemond River High School student, who was arrested at school Tuesday and charged with stealing two cars, is expected to be charged with the theft of another car in North Carolina, police said Wednesday.
The 16-year-old was charged with two counts of grand larceny of an automobile, reckless driving and hit-and-run.
He is being held at the Tidewater Detention Home in Chesapeake, said Suffolk Police spokesman Mike Simpkins.
The student had been driving a 1990 Cadillac, which had been stolen from Newport News, when he was involved in an accident Monday afternoon in the school parking lot and then fled into the woods, Simpkins said.
When he returned to school Tuesday morning, he was arrested by policeman Anthony Boone, the resource officer assigned to the school, who witnessed the accident.
The student was charged with the theft of the Cadillac and of a 1988 Oldsmobile, which had been stolen Sept. 12 from Chuckatuck Station Apartments and later recovered on the campus of Elizabeth City State University.
North Carolina authorities plan to issue a warrant for the student in the theft of a 1989 Pontiac Grand Am, which was stolen from the Elizabeth City State University campus and recovered on Wren Road, Simpkins said.
