Pier fishing improved along the northern beaches Wednesday as winds and seas subsided.

Kitty Hawk Pier reported plenty of spot taken throughout the day.

On Avalon Pier, fair numbers of spots, sea mullets and croakers were landed off and on during the day.

Blow toads, croakers and pigfish were caught by anglers on Nags Head Pier during the morning. A good run of spot developed during the afternoon.

Fishermen on Jennette's Pier had a good day landing sea mullet, spot and croakers weighing up to two pounds, and black drum during most of the day.

Scattered spot, sea mullet and a few small flounder were taken from Outer Banks Pier during the morning. Afternoon fishing was slow.

On Hatteras Island, Rodanthe Pier reported a few spot, sea mullet and flounder landed during the morning. Later in the day, spot fishing improved with plenty landed.

On Avon Pier, a few puppy drum, bottom fish and small gray trout were landed off and on during the day.

Dirty water along the beach kept action at Frisco a little slow. Anglers did manage to catch some nice croakers, a few spot, gray trout and puppy drum.

Small bottom fish were beached from deeper sloughs by surfcasters along the northern beaches on Wednesday's high tide.

Around Oregon Inlet, scattered bottom fish and a few bluefish were taken.

Spot, croakers, sea mullet and an occasional puppy drum were landed in the surf from Rodanthe to Buxton.

At Cape Point, scattered puppy drum were taken sporadically during the day. Small bottom fish and a few sea mullet were also landed.

Fishing was a little slow along the beach from Frisco to False Point.

Boat fishing was at a standstill again Wednesday due to small craft warnings but should resume today.
