ValuJet's absence causes drop in traffic
Passenger traffic at Newport News/Williamsburg International plunged in August without ValuJet Airlines serving the airport. The number of people flying into or out of the airport fell 43 percent, to 23,008. Norfolk International Airport reported a 13 percent increase in August passenger traffic, to 280,745. Newport News/Williamsburg should be in the second round of cities that ValuJet serves when it resumes service, said James Smith, the airport's executive director.
