Tharrin Harold picked a good time to catch the first touchdown pass of his varsity football career.
His 4-yard reception from Gilbert Harris gave Tallwood a 16-13 overtime victory over Salem Friday night.
``It's a first,'' Harold, a junior tight end, said. ``I've got to thank my man Travis (Mazyck). I wouldn't have been open if he didn't set it up right.''
Tallwood hadn't run the play - in which the tight end slides in front of the coverage on the wide receiver - all night.
``(Harold) hadn't been getting much action and he had dropped one earlier,'' said Ken Barto, whose seventh-ranked Lions improved to 3-0 overall, 2-0 in the Beach District. ``So we figured he might get open.''
Even if the play failed, Tallwood still had one more down to either try for the victory or kick a field goal to force a second round of overtime.
Salem's Kevin Miller had kicked a 31-yarder on fourth down to put the Sun Devils (1-2, 1-1) up 13-10 after both teams fought to a 10-10 tie in regulation.
Ironically, Miller and Tallwood's Mike Nagelin - two of the top kickers in the area - each missed 25-yarders in the fourth quarter that could have been winners.
Miller hit a 43-yarder with 1:33 left in the third to tie the game. Nagelin hit one from 22 with a second left in the first half to give Tallwood a 10-0 lead. by CNB
