James ``Capt. Red'' Preston Edwards, 98, died Sept. 20, 1996.
A native of Mathews, Mr. Edwards was a member of Severn Presbyterian Church, Naxera. In 1962, he retired as boat master after 45 years of employment with the C & O Railroad, now Chessie System. He was the oldest living member of Ducks Unlimited and past member of the Master Mates & Pilots.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia S. Edwards.
Survivors include four daughters, Virginia Anne Edwards of Hayes, Elva Joyce Adamson and her husband Henry, of Arvada, Colo., Kay Edwards Riley and her husband, Pastor Leonard D. Riley of Hampton, Fay Edwards Mull and her husband, Eugene of Newport News; a son, Capt. Jerry Edwards and his wife, Anne, of Hayes; a niece, Mary Virginia Barnette of Mathews; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point Chapel, by the Rev. H. Wilson. Burial will be in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Abingdon Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
