GERALD N. WEITZMAN

Dr. Gerald N. Weitzman, 63, of the 2800 block of Acres Road, died Sept. 20, 1996, in his home.

Dr. Weitzman was a Philadelphia, Pa., native and retired from the Portsmouth Orthopaedics Association after 24 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Nellie Weitzman. He was a member of Temple Sinai, Portsmouth, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the Virginia Medical Society, the Virginia Orthopaedic Society, the Portsmouth Academy of Medicine, the Hahnemann Alumni Association and Phi Lambda Kappa Medical Fraternity.

Dr. Weitzman was past president of the Hampton Roads Orthopaedic Society; past chief of surgery at Maryview Hospital; past president of medical staff, Portsmouth General Hospital; past president of the Portsmouth Academy of Medicine; a delegate to the Virginia Medical Society; chairman of the Legislative Committee of the Virginia Orthopaedic Society; and a member of the board of directors of the Eastern Orthopaedic Society.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Weitzman; a daughter, Linda Sue Weitzman of Miami, Fla.; a son, Douglas Keith Weitzman of Suffolk; and a granddaughter, Drew Elaine Weitzman.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Temple Sinai by Rabbi Arthur Z. Steinberg. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel. Memorials can be made to the University of Chicago, Hematology Research Department, Dr. Golomb, 5841 S.
