Where Washington Redskins tight end Scott Galbraith goes these days, strange touchdowns follow.
Last week against the New York Giants, Galbraith caught a 30-yard scoring pass from quarterback Gus Frerotte on a fake-field goal. In Washington's 17-10 victory over the St. Louis Rams Sunday, he and Frerotte combined on a 2-yard touchdown pass that put the Redskins ahead 7-0.
Only Galbraith wasn't even supposed to be in that spot in the end zone. Fellow tight end Jamie Asher was.
``It was a busted play,'' Galbraith said. ``Jamie thought another play had been called and I just barely convinced him he wasn't right before we got to the line of scrimmage. He did my assignment, I did his.''
Galbraith charged off the line of scrimmage while Frerotte rolled back and to the right. Frerotte flipped the ball high over a charging lineman's head; too high, it appeared, for Galbraith to catch it.
But he jumped, then tipped the ball with his left hand before bringing it into his chest a second before hitting the ground. ``It's instinctive,'' he said. Kicker Lohmiller still doesn't understand Redskin treatment
Former Redskins kicker Chip Lohmiller had a chance to draw the Rams within a touchdown at halftime, but badly missed a 38-yard field goal attempt with one second to play. Replays showed that holder Keith Lyle didn't spin the ball so that the laces were facing away from Lohmiller, a mortal sin among holders.
``Yeah, I got a tattoo on my foot from that one,'' said Lohmiller, who later converted a 19-yard field goal and an extra point.
Lohmiller told St. Louis newspapers that last season ``was a tough one for me.'' He and Washington special teams coach Pete Rodriguez never hit it off, particularly when Rodriguez tried to make some fundamental changes in Lohmiller's kicking style. The Redskins eventually released Lohmiller, who spent the season with New Orleans before signing with St. Louis last offseason.
``It was time for me to go,'' Lohmiller said of leaving the Redskins. ``Things weren't working out with my position coach (Rodriguez). I respect the man. He's a great coach.''
But. . .
``He never had any positive things to say about me. It was always negative.''
Rodriguez, who was out of the locker room before anyone could get a comment, reportedly was upset with Lohmiller's characterization of him.
``I was coming down to say hi to him, but I was told not to, that he might blow up at me,'' Lohmiller said. ``I really don't understand why that would be.''
Lohmiller says he talks to ex-Redskins and Rams quarterback Mark Rypien regularly, said that Rypien would like to play again for the Rams, but that upper management wants none of it. Injury report
