MURDIS L. WILLIAMS

Shepherd Mother Murdis L. Williams, of the 3400 block of Canterbury Dr. in Portsmouth, died Sept. 18, 1996, in her home in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., on Route 1.

She was retired as a nurse with Rockland County State Hospital, New York, after 30 years of service. Born in Thelma, N.C., she was the widow of Bishop Samuel C. Williams. She was a member of Williams Temple Christian Antioch Church of God In Christ, Portsmouth. She was the Shepherd Church Mother and The Y.P.H.A. President.

Survivors include five daughters, Delores Edwards, Yvonne James, both of Pittsburgh, Pa., Roslyn Allen and Shirley Adams of New York, N.Y., Barbara Doles of Portsmouth; a son, Prince Williams of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; two sisters, Catherine Brown of North Carolina, Pearline Yelardy of New York, N.Y.; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Joyce Williams and Delpine Williams, both of New York; sons-in-law, Henry Edwards of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Robert Allen of New York; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. She was predeceased by a son, Samuel C. Williams Jr.

A funeral will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. by the Bishop Ernest Brown in Williams Temple Christian Antioch Church of God in Christ, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at noon today. A Christian Wake Service will be held today at 6 p.m. in Williams Temple Christian Antioch Church of God in Christ. The family and friends will assemble at the church at 6:45 p.m. today for the wake.
