Well done, Norfolk School Board. The reasonable and credible response to some Norfolk State University board members was just what was needed to set things in perspective (``School Board to NSU: Cooperate, don't blame,'' Sept. 20).
As a teacher in the Norfolk system, I know quite well the many programs, methods and activities of teachers and guidance counselors geared directly to helping every student achieve maximum potential. However, a student with 1.0 average can graduate, and the college that accepts this student then accepts the responsibility for his or her success.
If we all thought like board member Edythe Harrison, we too could point a finger and say the job of preparing such students to graduate on time is not being done.
NSU is to be commended for its goal in offering underachieving students a chance for success. In the continued spirit of cooperation between the schools, the colleges and the community, this goal can be realized.
