Vincent Warren Shields Jr., of the 1100 block of Chapel St., died Sept. 23, 1996, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
A native of Norfolk, he was a retired merchant seaman with Military Sealift Command. He was a Baptist and a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Shields; a daughter, April Merritt Butler of Rhode Island; a stepdaughter, Tonya Bellamy of Norfolk; a son, Vincent Warren Shields III; a stepson, Dean Bellamy of Portsmouth; a brother, Theodore Cowell of Norfolk; two grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Friday by Bishop Anthony Moses in Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The remains will be ready for viewing Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. The family will assemble at the funeral home at 11:45 a.m.
