ELBERT L. LAMBERT

Elbert Lavan Lambert, 80, of the 3700 block of Cedar Lane, died Sept. 22, 1996.

Born in Columbia, S.C., to the late Willoughby L. and Lila Reynolds Lambert, he was retired from the Naval Ammunition Depot, St. Julian's Creek with 37 years of service, after which he worked for Merchants and Farmers Bank. He served in the Navy in World War II and the Naval Reserve for a number of years thereafter. He was a member of First Lutheran Church where he was a choir member for over 60 years and its first cantor. He was a past master and 50-year member of Seaboard Masonic Lodge (NU)56, past patron of Esther Chapter (NU)37 Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Khedive Temple, Shrine and Portsmouth Scottish Rite Bodies.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lena S. Lambert; his son, Louis R. Lambert; his daughter, Kay L. Cherry; grandsons, L. Michael Lambert, Kenneth R. Lambert, Robert L. Lambert, Timothy B. Cherry; granddaughter, Dr. Joan Cherry Harrold; brother, Elton R. Lambert; niece, Linda E. Norris; nephew, James R. Lambert; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted by Pastor Henry Hund in First Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. Thursday with interment to follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Oman Funeral Home, Cedar Road, Chesapeake, today from 7:30 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Lutheran Church, 600 King St., Portsmouth, Va. 23704.
