Mrs. Willie Evelyn Langley Barge, 82, of the 900 block of Covenant St., died Sept. 23, 1996, in Health South Medical Center, Richmond.
A native of Norfolk, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Frank and Estelle Harris Langley and the widow of John S. Barge Sr. A homemaker, Mrs. Barge was a member of Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church for 60 years, participating in the Roy Woods Sunday school (NU)1, Missionary Circle, Golden Heirs and Church Women United. She also founded the Broad Creek Civic League and volunteered for the Head Start program. She was an elections officer for the Norfolk Electoral Board, Precinct (NU)0303 Bowling Park and was a state-licensed child-care provider.
Survivors include seven daughters, Jacquelin B. Bradley, Estelle B. Langston, Jean B. Gentry, Bernice B. Phillips, Evangeline B. Nettles, Inez B. Cotton, Jessie Barge-Swift; a son, the Rev. John S. Barge Jr.; a sister, Bernice L. Coleman; a brother, Daniel O. Langley; 29 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at noon Friday in Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Cedric Kirkland-Harris. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Viewing will be from 2 until 8 p.m. Thursday in Riddick Funeral Service, where a wake will also be held at 7 p.m. The body will be placed in church at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
