MARIE D. DAVIS

Marie D. Davis, 86, known as Curley or Cullie, died Sept. 23, 1996, in Norfolk Health Care Center.

A native of Williamsburg County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Saul and Ella Dozier. A homemaker, she was the widow of John Davis and a member of Antioch Baptist Church of Lane, S.C.

Survivors include five daughters, Jannie M. Garrett, Bernice Willey, both of Norfolk, Essie L. Major of Philadelphia, Dorothy Davis of Lane, S.C., Betty J. Swinton of Clearwater, Fla.; two sons, the Rev. Moses L. Davis Sr. and James Davis of Norfolk; three daughters-in-law, Rebecca Davis, the Rev. Evangeline M. Davis, Gwendolyn Davis, all of Norfolk; three sons-in-law, Edward L. Willey of South Carolina, Roy Majors of Philadelphia, and Sam Swinton of Clearwater; 59 grandchildren; 97 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great- grandchildren. She was predeceased by her eldest son, Samuel J. Davis Sr.; two brothers and two sisters.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday by the Rev. Elder Holmes in Antioch Baptist Church, Lane, S.C. Viewing will be from 2 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Riddick Funeral Service. A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The body will be shipped to Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home in Kingstree, S.C.
