CHARLES E. STEWART

Charles Edward Stewart, 73, of S. Wolfsnare Drive, died Sept. 25, 1996, in Virginia Beach General Hospital with his family at his side.

Originally a native of Youngstown, Ohio, he was a resident of the Tidewater area for 40 years. Mr. Stewart retired from the Navy as an Independent Duty chief hospital corpsman after 20 years.

He obtained his B.S. degree from William and Mary Extension in Norfolk, and his master's degree from George Washington University. Mr. Stewart was a teacher in Vocational Office Training with the Virginia Beach School System. He was with the Chesapeake School System as a Business Supervisor and retired as Assistant Principal. Mr. Stewart was a member of the V.F.W., the N.E.A., the Fleet Reserve Association and the Bowling Association.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; two daughters, Sharon Hardison Helland of Phoenix, Ariz., Victoria Stewart Downey of Montgomery, Ala.; five grandchildren, Jennifer B. Hardison, Tori Leigh Hardison, Victoria Tyler Downey, Bruce Johnson Downey IV, John Stewart Downey; and a sister, Dorothy Smiley of Detroit, Mich.

A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Friday in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, by Chaplin James Fedor. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Renal Foundation or the American Heart Foundation.
