Martha Murray Colleran, 77, of the 4300 block of Westwell Lane, died Sept. 25, 1996, in a Virginia Beach hospital.
Mrs. Colleran was born in Henderson, Ky. She retired as a U.S. Navy commander nurse on July 1, 1968, from Portsmouth Naval Hospital, after 20 years of devoted service. Her tours of duty include the following: Naval Hospital in Pensacola, Fla., during World War II; USS Benevolence AH-13 during World War II. She was an instructor at Naval Hospital Corps School in Great Lakes, Ill., Naval Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., Women's Officers School in Newport, R.I. Also she was a member of Little Creek Amphibious Base Chapel and the Little Creek Altar Guild. She was an oblate of St. Gregory's Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, William C. Colleran; a stepson, W. Wayne Colleran of Virginia Beach; two step-grandchildren, Shirley C. Perry and William S. Colleran, both of Virginia Beach; two sisters-in-laws, Marianna Murray of Louisville, Ky., Cora S. Colleran of Portsmouth; a niece, Delores Nulman of California; numerous great-nieces and nephews and friends.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in Little Creek Amphibious Base Chapel by Father Morris. Burial with military honors will be in Quantico National Cemetery. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. today in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, where the family will remain to receive friends until 9 p.m. following the service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Little Creek Altar Guild or to a favorite charity.
