Seventy-nine teams totaling 436 anglers competed in the 15th Annual Hatteras Village Invitational Surf Fishing tournament over the weekend.
Chairwoman Cora Simmons said the winning men's team was the Fish Chasers from Lincoln, Del. Team members were Bill Carey, John Boc, Bill Graham, Carl Graham, Dick Smith and Danny Reel.
Members of the winning women's team, the Risky Reelers of Kill Devil Hills, were Diane Moye, Nancy Loomis, Lorraine Eaton-Moore, Gwin Marshall, Sue Brown and Mary Loomis.
Second in the men's division was the Sandfiddlers of Buxton. Third went to The Rising Tides of Nags Head.
Largest bluefish titles went to Norm Bradford of Nags Head with a 16 1/4-inch catch and Lovie Carter of Frisco with a 15-incher. Largest fish other than bluefish was a 26-inch drum caught by Warren Kuehl of Nags Head and an 18 1/4-inch drum caught by Janice Spake of Buxton. Biggest trashfish was a 59-inch stingray landed by Jack Sterley of Rodanthe. by CNB
