Air South, continuing to reposition itself in the competitive airline industry, announced on Wednesday lower fares, an altered flight schedule and a generous frequent-flyer program.
The low-price airline just got lower, with one-way fares ranging from $19 to $109. The cheapest fare out of Norfolk International Airport is $29 to New York's Kennedy Airport with advanced purchase.
Air South also launched a ``Fly Three, Fly Free'' promotion. For every three round-trips, travelers are entitled to a free round-trip ticket anywhere in the Air South system.
Also, to appeal to business travelers, the Columbia, S.C.-based airline changed its departure times to New York. The airline also added a one-stop flight to Atlanta from Norfolk.
``We continue to see Norfolk in our future,'' Thomas J. Volz, marketing vice president. ``Norfolk's done very, very well for us.''
The fledging airline has been plagued by canceled and delayed flights. Changes made by new ownership and management this summer have improved its on-time arrivals from 70 percent to 85 percent. Also the number of canceled flights decreased from 10 percent to 1.5 percent. by CNB
