TONIGHT'S TV PREMIERES

``Sabrina, the Teenage Witch''

Network, time: ABC, 8:30 tonight.

Cast: Melissa Joan Hart, Caroline Rhea, Beth Broderick, Nate Richert, Michelle Beaudoin, Jenna Leigh Green, Paul Feig, Nick Bakay.

Plotline: On her 16th birthday, Sabrina Spellman finds out that she's a for-real witch with two aunts who are also witches and a black cat named Salem that talks. The aunts break the news about the witchy stuff (black cauldrons, spells) on Sabrina's first day in a new high school, as if she didn't have enough to think about. Penn and Teller and Deborah Harry are guest stars tonight.

Mini-review: The good news about being a witch: You can make bad things happen to the snobby girls in your class. The bad news: You live forever and have zits when you're 600 years old. This is a neat show based on the Archie Comics' heroine, a hit for sure with teens. Hart (from Nick at Nite's ``Clarissa Explains It All'') strikes just the right note as a typical 16-year-old who just happens to levitate and do other cool stuff. Three 1/2 stars (Out of a possible 5). ILLUSTRATION: Color photo
