Skywatchers Thursday night were treated to the last full lunar
eclipse of the 1990s. A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth
moves between the sun and the full moon, casting its curved shadow
across the moon. These photos were taken in downtown Norfolk between
9:30 and 10:15 p.m., minutes before totality. The next total lunar
eclipse will be in January 2000. For a color image, see Pilot Online
