Coastal Green a brilliant concept
Dickie Foster's proposed Coastal Green retirement community is a wonderful concept for the Rock Church property!
Fifty-three percent of this town's budget is for schools. How brilliant to build for an age group who just brings dollars here to spend to reverse the dollar flow - rather than requiring lots of expensive services.
What difference does it make about crossing the ``Green Line?'' It was visibly never drawn correctly to start with - but only from expediency to stem the building rush. All that property along the Chesapeake line and fronting on the North Landing River with soil types that don't perc or drain well - all the way to the Courthouse should have sewer lines and be developed - and our great farming soils down the ridges preserved!
Everyone else in town looks at all that marsh along the North Landing River and says ``can't build houses on it - not interested.'' Foster looks at it and says ``what an asset! we'll put raised walkways for golf carts - great for a retirement community means of getting around and preserves the wildlife as well. We'll build a village around a golf course on the high ground and turn this into a plus!''

Why inflict damage for no apparent reason?
On Sept. 12 I went to lunch with a group of ladies to the Happy Crab on Laskin Road. When we came out after a lovely lunch, we were shocked to find someone had taken a sharp object such as a key or a nail and gouged down both sides of my car from front to rear. Why?
I was legally parked: within my space, not taking anyone's else's space, not in a handicapped space or a no parking zone. I had not cut anyone out of a space; there were lots of open spaces when I arrived. There was no one walking around the parking lot (it was raining) and had not gotten in anyone's way while turning into the lot.
So why? What possesses someone to inflict $1,303 worth of damages to a total stranger for no reason?
I realize I am lucky not to have been physically hurt by this socio-path, but it certainly confirms that we live in sad times and dangerous locations and Virginia Beach is no exception.

Stranded senior citizen appreciative of kindness
On Sept. 4, I had car trouble at the intersection of Dam Neck Road and General Booth Boulevard. Being a senior citizen I was caught in an embarrassing situation plus hopeless in moving my car from the intersection.
Then out of the blue an unidentified man and a most kind lady came to my rescue. Through their acts of kindness I would like to thank Christy Talley and this gentleman whom I'm sorry I didn't get his name. I hope he reads this and will recognize himself.
I wish everyone would take time out each day to help someone even in their time of hurry. It sure would put a lot of smiles on a lot of hearts as these two kind people put on mine. God bless you both!
