DIABETES ON THE SHORE CUT OFF

Dr. James L. McDaniel (letters, Sept. 21) implies that Kerry Dougherty's Sept. 7 column was incorrect. Not entirely so.

While our almost 50 dedicated physicians practicing medicine on the Eastern Shore of Virginia do a remarkable job, the approximately 4,000 diabetics here have no endocrinologist. For those of us suffering with severe diabetes, we must leave the Shore for adequate treatment.

Hats off to Dr. McDaniel for defending our Eastern Shore! But we face lots of bridge-tunnel tolls for our diabetes patients.
