On Sept. 16, I read in The Virginian-Pilot that the national Fraternal Order of Police president, in endorsement of the incumbent presidential candidate, stated ``rank-and-file'' police officers have never had a better friend in the White House than Bill Clinton.''
As a U.S. Army veteran and a ``rank-and-file'' police officer with more than 10 years service, I cannot accept that position or opinion of Bill Clinton.
While not attempting to detract from any of the positive attributes of the anti-crime bill, I cannot fully accept the campaigning media spin on the alleged results of Clinton's ``crime-fighting'' efforts.
With that in mind, I can no longer remain a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. I consider this the only moral stand that is available to me since I cannot lend my support to the endorsement issued by the FOP.
