ANTHONY L. MESSINA

Anthony L. ``Tip'' Messina, died Sept. 30, 1996.

A native of New York, he served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. His decorations included the Distinguished Flying Cross. He fought in the China-Burma-India Theater of the War. Mr. Messina retired from Grumman Aerospace Corporation after 45 years. He received many honors, including the ``Distinguished Intruder of the Year'' award from the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Family and the Cavalier Golf and Yacht Club.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Rose Masi Messina; a son, Anthony Messina III; a daughter, Peggy Harris and five grandchildren, all of Virginia Beach; a brother, Frank Messina of Dataw, S.C.; a brother, Nicholas Messina of Virgilina, Va.; a sister, Marie M. Costa of Kings Park, N.Y.; a sister, Dorothy Peck of Brookings, Ore.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Christian wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, where the family will remain until 9 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated by Father Richard Mooney at 11 a.m. Friday in the Church of the Holy Family, Great Neck Road. Interment will be at Princess Anne Memorial Park, Great Neck Road. All friends and family are invited back to church for refreshments.
