MILITARY PLANS EXERCISES FOR 15,000 ALONG THE EAST COAST

About 15,000 men and women from all branches of the armed services will take part in a three-week training exercise beginning Oct. 7, the Pentagon announced Tuesday.

Units will use training ranges along the East Coast from Virginia to Florida until Oct. 24.

The forces ``will be tested on their ability to deploy rapidly, conduct joint operations during a crisis . . . and refine tactics, techniques and procedures for joint force operations,'' the statement said.

Some of the units participating will be:

The Navy's aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt and its battle group.

The amphibious assault ship Nassau and its Marine Corps amphibious ready group.

Elements of the Army's 18th Airborne Corps.

The U.S. Air Force's Air Combat Command.

The U.S. Coast Guard.

Also, patrol aircraft from the Netherlands and Canada will take part, the statement said. by CNB
