Thelma Midgett Smith, 80, of the 1400 block of Lakeside Road, died Oct. 1, 1996, in her home.
Mrs. Smith was born in Rodanthe, N.C., the daughter of the late Edward Rudolph and Colenda B. Midgett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond L. Smith. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Bayside Chapter (NU)181, Haygood United Methodist Church, Virginia Beach, and Fairhaven United Methodist Church, Rodanthe.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Jack Capps and his wife, Elsie Gayle Capps, and Raymond L. Smith Jr. and his wife, Christine S. Smith, all of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren, Kimberly Ann Reyes of Norfolk and Chelsea M. Smith and Daniel R. Smith, both of Virginia Beach; two nephews, Rudy Gray and Asa ``Buddy'' Gray III, both of Waves, N.C.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Haygood United Methodist Church, 4713 Haygood Road, by the Rev. Alan G. Reifsnyder. The rituals by Order of the Eastern Star, Bayside Chapter (NU)181, will be held at the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society. The Cremation Society of Virginia - Tidewater Office is in charge.
