Iris Marie Rountree, 79, died Oct. 2, 1996.
She was the daughter of Victoria and Willie Rountree of Suffolk. She was a member of First Unitarian Church of Richmond. She attended Longwood College, Farmville, Va., and Elon College, Elon, N.C. After retiring from the State of Virginia, she enjoyed volunteering in the most satisfying role of being a grandmother figure to kindergarten children at Elmont Elementary School.
Survivors include a sister, Willie R. Sinclair of Franklin; nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and a great-great-niece, Kelsey Rae Rountree of Smithfield.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Westminster Canterbury Chapel, Westbrook Ave., Richmond. Friends and family are invited to the reception that will follow the memorial service.
