LET BIG BROTHER WATCH

In response to Margaret Jones' letter (``Big Brother and prisons,'' Sept. 29):

If ``Big Brother Government'' doesn't closely watch imprisoned convicted felons, who in the world should it watch? You complain that the state will be ``tapping'' your phone calls to your imprisoned son. To this I must ask, ``So what?''

If parents call an inmate to express love and concern, why would they care? If they are calling to plan an escape, or other illegal activity (golly, you don't reckon some criminals' friends and family would do that, do you?), then I would suggest they not ``reach out and touch'' him in that manner.

Ms. Jones, I am sorry that your son is in prison - I know that must be hard for a mother to endure. But I must applaud the prison system for closely watching him. How else will they curb the ``things that go on behind walls'' that concern you?
