The Rev. Otis William Zirkle, 74, of the 200 block of S. George Washington Hwy., died Wednesday Oct. 2, 1996, in a Chesapeake hospital.
The Rev. Zirkle was born in Strasburg, Va., on March 23, 1922, and was the son of Titus A. and Lula Hepner Zirkle. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He graduated from the University of Virginia and Mt. Airy Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. He served parishes at Mt. Tabor Lutheran, Staunton, Va., Christ Lutheran, Radford, Va., and retired from Holy Communion Lutheran, Portsmouth, in 1992.
The Rev. Zirkle is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy; his children, Bruce and Luisa Zirkle, Sharon and Tom Weeks, Keith and Evelyn Zirkle; a brother, A. Douglas Zirkle of Mt. Jackson, Va.; six grandchildren, Alan and Lauren Zirkle, Victor, Aden and Byron Weeks and Keith William Zirkle.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Apostles Lutheran Church, Johnstown Road, Great Bridge, by the Rev. John Dooley. Interment will be private in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today in Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, and at other times at S. George Washington Highway. Please omit flowers. The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of Apostles Lutheran Church, 370 Johnstown Road, Chesapeake, Va. 23320.
