CHESAPEAKE - Unbeaten Deep Creek (5-0, 2-0) scored on its first four possessions and racked up its third shutout of the season. The Hornets exploded for three touchdowns in 27 seconds in the second quarter, following up a 9-yard scoring run by Teray Frost with a pair of Hickory turnovers that produced two more scores. Hickory (0-5, 0-2) fumbled a kickoff and Kendall Harris recovered for Deep Creek. Hornets quarterback Arnie Powell then connected with split end Kendall Watson in the end zone. After the ensuing kickoff, Hickory had a first-down pass picked off by James Green, who zipped 34 yards for another touchdown. Deep Creek completed all seven passes it attempted, with Frost hauling in a 32-yarder for a touchdown. The other Hornet touchdowns were scored by Henry Martin on an 8-yard run and by Charlie Woodall, the game's leading rusher with 84 yards on 12 carries, on an 11-yard scamper.

VIRGINIA BEACH - Kellam dropped the ball on Tallwood's 5-yard line in the closing minutes, narrowly missing a chance to knock off the Lions. Nathan Brown intercepted a pass and recovered a key fumble to set up two Kellam scoring drives in the first half. Brown intercepted Tallwood quarterback Gilbert Harris at the Kellam 14, but the Knights were forced to settle for a field goal by Justin Trout. On the ensuing kickoff, Tallwood'sTharrin Harold fumbled at the 27. Brown's recovery set up Rob Etheridge's 10-yard touchdown run. On the next kickoff, Tallwood incurred two penalties - a 10-yard holding and a 15-yard misconduct - but managed to drive 84 yards to pull within three. Travis Mazyck's 27-yard reverse and Harris' two third-down conversions were capped by Jon Brady's 1-yard touchdown. The Lions took the lead on their second possession of the second half when Harris raced 39 yards.

PORTSMOUTH - A 13-yard touchdown run by TaRon Anderson got the Greyhounds (4-1, 2-0) going. A sloppy offense by the Presidents allowed Norcom to score 35 points before the first half. Five different players scored for the Greyhounds. Charles Lowe scored on runs of 2 and 4 yards, Laushaun Britt caught a 5-yard pass from Kevin Jones, Vernon Grandison scored on a 27-yard run, Darren Satterwhite scored on a 27-yard run and a 10-yard run and James Lavender caught a 5-yard TD pass from Jones.

CHESAPEAKE - The second-ranked Braves (4-0, 2-0) gave a sloppy offensive effort, recovering four of their own fumbles and throwing three interceptions, but still managed their third shutout in as many weeks. Great Bridge (0-5, 0-2) swarmed receivers, forcing IR quarterback James Boyd to take second looks or run the ball throughout the contest. Boyd was 0 for 6 with two interceptions and rushed for only six total yards. Great Bridge's Bryant Lawrence was the top rusher for the game with 81 yards on 16 carries. The Braves went up early when Kenny Bly recovered a fumble and raced 15 yards into the end zone. Boyd then struck with a 16-yard touchdown run and David Selby recovered a fumble and streaked 55 yards for the 20-0 halftime lead.

VIRGINIA BEACH - Alex Lleces and Zeb Clark combined for six touchdowns and 439 yards of offense as fifth-ranked Kempsville improved to 4-1, 3-1 in the Beach District. The Chiefs spotted the Cavaliers (1-4, 1-3) an early 14-7 lead, but Kempsville scored twice within 20 seconds and never trailed again. Lleces ignited the Chiefs with a 27-yard TD, and then ran for the final four touchdowns, finishing with 16 carries for 173 yards. Clark tallied 266 yards and one touchdown.

VIRGINIA BEACH - Sheron Joseph ran for 117 yards and two touchdowns as the Dolphins' defense dominated in the first half. Cox (3-2, 2-2 Beach) was three-and-out on each of its first three possessions and Ocean Lakes (4-1, 3-1) limited the Falcons' Leroy Ellsworth, who entered the game as South Hampton Roads' third-leading rusher, to 23 yards on 11 carries. Joseph's 1-yard scoring run capped a 60-yard drive that gave the Dolphins a 7-0 lead. Walter Amos then hit Craig Matthews on a 13-yard scoring pass for a 14-0 advantage at the half.

VIRGINIA BEACH - Larron Jones ran in from 3 yards out to rally Green Run (2-2, 2-3) with 51 seconds remaining in a Beach District game. Mike Majette then controlled a high snap and Rick Hodges' extra-point attempt sealed it. Jones led all rushers with 22 carries for 127 yards. The Stallions held Bayside (0-4, 0-4) to only four possessions in the second half, but the Marlins got scores from Antoine Jenkins and Patrick Spruill. Spruill picked up a fumble and sprinted 92 yards up the middle with 4:51 remaining. Larry Chapman ran in for the conversion that put the Marlins up 14-8 before Green Run mounted its comeback.

NORFOLK - Bobby Jordan scored on fourth-and-goal from the one with 7:53 left in the game to spur the Commodores (3-2, 1-1) to the Eastern District victory. Jordan's touchdown was set up by a 71-yard run by Rodney Brown. Brown ran for 140 yards on 17 carries. Norview (2-3, 1-1) took a 7-0 lead in the third quarter when Larry Austin capped an 8-play, 81-yard drive with a 26-yard touchdown run. Maury retaliated with a 19-yard TD run by Antonio Williams with 2:08 left in the third period, following a fumble recovery at the Norview 35. SUFFOLK - Lavar Griffin completed 9 of 18 passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns and the Tigers scored on their first two possessions to spoil the Warriors' homecoming. Lavaughn Rice ran 29 yards for one touchdown and Demitric White had an 18-yard touchdown reception as Oscar Smith (2-3, 1-1) grabbed a 14-0 first-quarter lead. Nansemond River (1-4, 0-2) closed to 20-7 on an 11-yard run by Zeus Blankenship with 1:10 left in the first half, then got the ball at the Smith 37 when the Tigers muffed the ensuing kickoff. But the Warriors could get no closer than 34 following two incomplete passes and a sack. Rice finished with 115 yards on 11 carries.

COURTLAND - Torrey Goodwin and Rico Ivey combined for 243 yards rushing and four touchdowns as the Indians, ranked third in the state Group AA poll, benefited from seven Packer turnovers. Goodwin ran for 128 yards on 22 attempts and scored on runs of 7, 2 and 2 yards. Ivey had 115 yards on 20 carries and had three scores and another 50-yard run called back because of penalties. Mitchell Pillsbury also hooked up with Greg Scott on two touchdown passes for Southampton (5-0, 2-0 Bay Rivers).

SUFFOLK - Sophomore Warren Carroll cut loose for a 77-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage as the Saints (3-2, 1-0 TCIS) snapped a two-game losing streak. Carroll, featured as the main tailback while Sidney Hazelwood sits out with a shoulder injury, finished with 204 yards on 24 carries. Catholic's Marty White scored on a 75-yard run in the first quarter. White scored Catholic's other touchdown on a 7-yard run and finished with 180 yards on 22 carries for the Crusaders (2-3, 1-1). Saints quarterback J.M. Nemish threw touchdown passes to Jason Moore and Top Palmer. Ben Johnson scored two touchdowns and had 101 yards on 10 carries for N-SA.

FRANKLIN - Will Harris ran for 139 yards and three touchdowns in the first half as the Broncos (3-2, 2-0 Bay Rivers) rolled. Harris - who finished with 169 yards on 11 carries - scored on runs from 64, 43 and 20 yards as Franklin blew out to a 52-3 lead. Diron Newsome added 104 yards and a pair of touchdown runs, and Travis Lane returned a kickoff 86 yards for a score in the first quarter.
