Mary Jacqueline Gage Beard, 85, of the 200 block of S. Parliament Drive died Oct. 3, 1996, in her home.
A native of Amory, Miss., Mrs. Beard was a member of Carrow Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, and a retired sales clerk from W.G. Swartz Department Store. She bowled in the following leagues: Late Komers, 1968-70; Morning Star, 1970-74; Kitchen Dodgers, 1970-71; Pin Spinners, 1972. She was a longtime volunteer for the American Red Cross.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Henry Howard; daughters, Jacqueline Beard Howard, and husband, Franklin D., of Elizabeth City, N.C., Gwendolyn Beard Faircloth, and husband, George W., of Baconton, Ga.; a son, Joseph Henry Beard Jr. and wife, Marcella W., of Virginia Beach; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, by the Rev. Richard J. Bruce. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
