Helen Palmer Horton, 76, of the 100 block of Bobby Jones Drive died Oct. 3, 1996, in a Suffolk nursing home.
Mrs. Horton was retired from the Circle Restaurant as night manager and was a native of Boone, N.C. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, John B. Horton Jr.; a daughter, JoAnne Dickens of Charlotte, N.C.; a son, John B. Horton III of Pampa, Texas; four sisters, Colonia Hampton of Boone, Eunis Miller of Albemarle, N.C., Reba Miller of Boone and Nell Smith of Lenoir, N.C.; three grandchildren, Jerry Dickens of Richmond, Meredith Horton of Lubbock, Texas, and J.B. Horton IV of Canyon, Texas. Mrs. Horton was predeceased by a granddaughter, Dana Marie Dickens.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Robert F. Cofield Jr. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be sent to the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters. Loving Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is in charge.
