Lee Thomas Sumrell, 80, of the 1100 block of White Pine Drive died Oct. 5, 1996, in Portsmouth.
A native of North Carolina, Mr. Sumrell was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. He was a watchmaker and jeweler and retired from the Navy Exchange, Portsmouth. He was a member of the Watchmakers and Jeweler's Guild of Tidewater and the Fraternal Order of Knights of Columbus. He was also an army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian B. Sumrell; daughter and son-in-law, Charles and Janice S. Novack of Portsmouth; a son, Phillip L. Sumrell of Suffolk; a brother, James E. Sumrell of Brookneal, Va.; three grandchildren, Phillip Lee II, Stephanie and Lynne.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel, by Fr. James Gordon. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will be in the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Angels Catholic Church, Portsmouth, or the Charles Novack Transplant Fund c/o BB&T Bank, 500 Crawford St., Portsmouth, Va. 23704.
