BERNICE C. DILDAY

Bernice Carter Dilday, 67, of the 1400 block of Bridge Point Trail East, died Oct. 6, 1996, in her home after a three-year bout with cancer.

Mrs. Dilday was born in Asheville, N.C., and was raised in Raleigh, N.C., and Norfolk. She was a daughter of the late Noble William and Ruth Ward Carter of Norfolk. Her love and devotion to her family were exceeded only by her love of God. She was a member of Wilroy Baptist Church.

After spending 23 years of her adult married life in Sandston, Richmond and Lincroft, N.J., she and her husband moved to Norfolk in 1973 to purchase a processing and wholesale food distribution business which was renamed Supreme Foods Inc. The wholesale distribution business was moved to Suffolk in 1991, leaving the processing business to operate in Norfolk. She actively worked in the business as an executive for 20 years along with her husband and two sons. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and executive.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Jesse Preston Dilday; two sons, David Preston Dilday and his wife, Donna Newsome, of Virginia Beach and Michael Wayne Dilday and his wife, Marian ``Fran'' Prichard, of Suffolk; four granddaughters, Stephannie, Kimberly, Michelle and Melissa; two sisters, Doris Carter Woodington and her husband, Ronald ``Woody,'' of Moneta, Va., Shirley Carter Goulart and her husband, Francis ``Frank,'' of Suffolk; three brothers, William James Carter of Norfolk, Walter Gray Carter and his wife, Jean, of Norfolk, Tommy ``Johnnie'' Carter and his wife, Phyllis, of Aberdeen, N.C.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Harrell Funeral Home, Suffolk, by her pastor, the Rev. Carter Dey. Entombment will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wilroy Baptist Church Building Fund for Bernice Dilday Memorial, 306 Williams Road, Suffolk, Va. 23434.
