BETTY M. CUFFEE

Betty M. Cuffee, 80, of the 800 block of Drawbridge Drive, quietly slept away Oct. 7, 1996, at Chesapeake General Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Cuffee was a native of Wilson, N.C., and was the widow of Clarence V. Cuffee Sr. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. She retired in 1988 as a housekeeper for Jimmy Kline and was a member of the Park Place Senior Citizens Group.

Survivors include her stepmother, Alberta Ellis Hill; five daughters, Agnes E. Cowell of Chesapeake, Akilah K. Bilal of Virginia Beach, Inez Cuffee-Whitehead of Chesapeake, Leslie A. Cuffee, Ramona E. Cuffee, both of Portsmouth; a son, Clarence V. Cuffee Jr. of Chesapeake; a sister, Phyllis Lucus of Elm City, N.C.; two sons-in-law, Emmit L. Whitehead and William Cowell; two daughters-in-law, LaBarbara L. Cuffee and Roxanne T. Bilal Avery; and a special niece, Claudette Johnson. She was predeceased by her second son, Sharif Bilal (Frankie Cuffee).

She was blessed with and loved by 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was loved by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in New Bethel Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. James Whitaker. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Family will be at the home of her daughter, Inez Cuffee-Whitehead, 809 Drawbridge Drive, Chesapeake (Camelot), and will assemble there for the funeral.
