JAMES D. SWARTZ

James D. Swartz, 72, of the 1000 block of E. Leicester Ave., died Oct. 6, 1996, in a local hospital.

A senior chief in the U.S. Navy with 30 years of service, Mr. Swartz retired while on the USS LaSalle. He was also a warehouse manager for Jacobson Inc. He was a native of St. Joseph, Mo.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth V. Swartz; a sister, Evelyn Swartz of Lawrence, Kan.; brothers, Kermit Swartz and Glen Swartz, both of St. Joseph; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by Father Patrick Doody. Burial at sea by the U.S. Navy will take place at a later date. The family will receive friends following the service until 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Fund.
