Potomac Mills mall may expand by another 250,000 square feet over the next year, but only if a new California mall is a hit.
Anne Lipscomb, a vice president of marketing for the Mills Corp., the mall's Arlington-based developer, said the company is opening a fifth Mills mall in Ontario, Calif., Nov. 14.
The mall will be based on entertainment-based marketing, and will include an AMC 30-screen movie megaplex and a multimedia megastore.
If that mall is successful, chances are good that Potomac Mills will expand in about a year, Lipscomb said.
Lipscomb would not speculate about which retailers might come to a larger Potomac Mills, but she said the new businesses would probably not be the outlet-priced enterprises that have made Potomac Mills famous.
The 1.7-million-square-foot mall has tripled its number of stores since opening in 1985. by CNB
