Now, if the beautiful weather for last Saturday's Peanut Fest parade will just be repeated the rest of this week . . .
On Saturday, about 180 units kept about 1,000 parade watchers occupied for almost two hours.
There was competition among the bands and floats. Here are the winners:
The trophy for best band was given to a Portsmouth entrant, the I.C. Norcom High School Marching Band. Second place went to the Nansemond River Marching Warriors, and third place to the Northampton High School Marching Yellow Jackets, who came from Eastville.
Those three bands were given trophies. The other three were presented with plaques. The Spirit Award, an award of appreciation, was given to the Windsor High School Marching Band. This is the third year they were given that honor.
The Open Door Church of Suffolk had the winning float. The 2 Minis, with their small ponies and carts, were judged the most creative.
Honorable mention went to the Nansemond-Suffolk Volunteer Rescue Squad float.
