FEST WILL PRESENT A WIDE VARIETY OF ENTERTAINMENT

MARTINA MCBRIDE, star attraction of Peanut Fest, will have lots of entertaining company.

The three stages at Suffolk Municipal Airport are offering almost continuous activity through Sunday.

McBride's performance, at 4 p.m. Sunday, will be preceded by Hole Shot, a Hampton Roads country band; and The Delevantes, a Nashville group that plays country and rock.

For those who grew up rockin' to the music of John, Paul, George and Ringo, Peanut Fest has a double treat:

``Beatlemania Live'' performs at 8 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday. At 5 p.m. Sunday, it's Tim Beasley's ``Beatles Tribute.''

Bill Deal, Fat Ammon & The Rhondels get together at 8 p.m. tonight, and The Rhondels return on their own at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Many Hampton Roads entertainers are on the fest schedule.

Familiar country performers include Cactus Rose and 32 South, from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Friday; the Wooden Nickel Band, 5 p.m. Saturday; and 14-year-old Garth-like singer Troy Hedspeth at 2 p.m. Sunday.

If you remember such songs as ``Turn, Turn, Turn'' and ``Mr. Tambourine Man,'' you'll enjoy The Byrds Celebration. The group was formed with the cooperation of the late Michael Clarke, The Byrds' original drummer.

They will be at Peanut Fest at 8 p.m. Friday, opening for the Marshall Tucker Band, with still more 1960s and '70s flavored music. With the Tucker gang, you get the real thing. Those guys have lasted as a unit longer than most marriages.

At 6:30 is acoustic musician Lewis McGehee, a Richmond native who seems to appear everywhere in Hampton Roads.

Peanut Fest also will oblige those looking for action.

Bulls will show up at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday to help the cowboys of the McLamb Rodeo.

Or if you prefer four wheels, the Nationwide Demolition Derby, which always attracts a crowd, will crash onto the scene at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

There also will be plenty to eat, plenty of rides to enjoy, and tents filled with arts, crafts and commercial exhibitions. ILLUSTRATION: Graphic
