Jerry Wayne Pruett Sr., 46, of the 200 block of Beacon Road, Portsmouth, died Oct. 8, 1996, in a Portsmouth hospital.
A native of Concord, N.C., he was a retired U.S. Navy chief after 21 years of service. Mr. Pruett was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He also was a small engine mechanic for Dail's Hardware, Portsmouth.
Survivors include his wife, B. Irene Pruett; a son, Jerry Wayne Pruett Jr. of North Carolina; a stepdaughter, Karen Lynn Snipes of South Carolina; a stepson, John W. Anderson Jr. of South Carolina; a brother, Larry R. Pruitt of Portsmouth; and a step-grandson, Brian Snipes.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel., by the Rev. Bettie Johnson. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
