Bettie Phillips Harris Eastwood of the 300 block of Washington St. died Oct. 9, 1996, in Southampton Memorial, Franklin.
A native of Northampton County, she was the daughter of the late William Lemuel Harris and Bettie Phillips Ramsay Harris. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert M. Eastwood; a son, Herbert M. Eastwood Jr.; two brothers, J. Ramsay Harris and William Lemuel Harris Jr.; and a sister, Marion Harris Marks. She was a longtime member of Seaboard Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Bettie E. and Joseph R. Newsome Jr. of Boykins and Marian E. and Richard B. Taylor Jr. of Raleigh, N.C.; two grandsons, Dr. Matthew W. Robertson III and his wife, Frances, of Birmingham, Ala., and Todd E. Newsome of Boykins; two great-grandchildren, William Newsome Robertson and Brooke Randolph Robertson.
A graveside funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Seaboard Cemetery by the Rev. Bert Kirk and the Rev. Ben Thomas. The family received friends Thursday in Branch Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, N.C. Memorial donations may be made to Seaboard Baptist Church, Main St., Seaboard, N.C., 27876.
