RUSSELL L. THUERMER

Russell Lee Thuermer, 70, of the 1200 block of Sound Shore Drive died Oct. 10, 1996, in his home.

A native of Aurora, Ind., Mr. Thuermer was a son of the late Harry F. and Pearl Roberts Thuermer and the husband of Ellie E. Thuermer. Mr. Thuermer was retired from industrial supplies sales. Formerly vice president of Sterling Rubber Products Co., he later co-founded Moraine Industrial Supply Co. of Dayton, Ohio. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Edenton and American Legion Post 40. Mr. Thuermer was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He served in the 14th Armored Division Infantry in France and Germany, where he earned the Silver Star and Purple Heart.

He is survived by his beloved wife, daughter Karen Thuermer of Berwyn, Pa.; a son, Jon D. Thuermer of Kettering, Ohio; a brother, Garth Thuermer of DeLand, Fla.; a niece, Lynn Williams of Wilson, N.C.; and a nephew, David Thuermer of Orlando, Fla.

Besides his family, he loved sailing the Great Lakes, particularly Lake Erie, and enjoyed riding the trains throughout Europe, especially Switzerland. He liked photography, orchids and working with his hands.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the home of Mr. Thuermer, 1230 Sound Shore Drive in Edenton by the Rev. Jane Love and Dr. Richard Batzler. Memorials may be made to the Albemarle Home Health Care or the American Cancer Society. Evans Funeral Home, Edenton, is in charge.
