HARVEY L. GARD III

Harvey Lee Gard III, 26, of the 3800 block of Dare Circle, died Oct. 9, 1996, in a Richmond hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Lee was born Dec. 9, 1969, in DePaul Hospital in Norfolk. He was a graduate of the Electronics Institute of Technology and a former student of Old Dominion University. He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Norfolk.

Lee is survived by a large, loving family including his wife, Wendy Jeanne Turner Gard of Norfolk; his son, Nathan Alexander Gard of Norfolk; his mother, Brenda Gard of Norfolk; his brother, Brian Scott Gard of New York, N.Y.; his grandparents, Mary B. Gard of Norfolk and Mr. and Mrs. Aylvin R. Foster of Mt. Dora, Fla.; his mother-in-law Betty C. Ward and her husband Gordon of Virginia Beach; his father-in-law Thomas D. Turner of Salisbury, Md.; his brothers-in-law David and Chris; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey L. Gard Jr.

His family and friends will miss him. We shared with him his fears and struggles, but will remember him for his bravery and the kindness of his heart.

A service will be conducted by the Rev. Charles Joy at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 1996, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 1004 Graydon Ave. The family will receive friends at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial Ave., on Sunday, Oct. 13, from 1 to 3 p.m. Following the visitation, friends and family will gather at the Virginia Beach Center for the Arts from 4 to 7 p.m. for a silent art auction to benefit Lee's medical fund.
