Mr. Barrington DeVeaux Brooks, 37, of Talladega, Ala., passed on to his eternal home on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 1996. He died in the University of Alabama-Birmingham Hospital.
Barrington, a renowned musician, grew up in the Titustown section of Norfolk. His home church was Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Barrington was a Granby High School and Morehouse College graduate. At the time of his death, he was chairman of the music department, professor of voice and conductor of the Talladega College choir, Talladega. He was also the choral director at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Atlanta, Ga., and Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, Birmingham, Ala.
Survivors include his father, Joseph (Laura) Brooks Jr.; brothers, Joseph Brooks III and Albert (Cynthia) Brooks; nephews, Joseph Brooks IV, Albert Brooks Jr., Kenneth Brooks; several godchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Barrington was predeceased by his mother, Corrine Brooks.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. today in Ebenezer Baptist Church, Atlanta, by Dr. Joseph L. Roberts Jr. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk with Dr. Harold Braxton officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Barrington D. Brooks Music Scholarship Fund, Talladega College. Graves Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
