CARROLL W. NEAL

Mr. Carroll Wood Neal, 78, of 492 Glass Road, husband of Mrs. Mary Glass Neal, died Thursday morning, Oct. 10, 1996, at his home.

Mr. Neal was born May 21, 1918, in Halifax County to the late William and Blanche Estelle Neal. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. Mr. Neal was retired from the Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, and was a member of Bannertown Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, Robert Carroll (Bobby) Neal and his wife, Valerie, of Anderson, S.C., Mark Neal of Mount Airy; three grandchildren, Robert Carroll (Bud) Leary and his wife, Suzanne, of Chesapeake, Zeke Neal and Alicia Neal, both of Anderson, S.C.; two great-grandchildren, Morgan Elizabeth Leary and Madison Noel Leary, both of Chesapeake; a brother, James Neal and wife, Tab, of Scotland Neck, N.C. In addition to his parents, Mr. Neal was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Wright, and by two brothers, William Henry Neal and Fred Neal.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Bannertown Baptist Church by Dr. William (Bill) Guthrie and the Rev. Wayne Haynes, with burial to follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The body will remain in Moody Funeral Home until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Bannertown Baptist Church Building Fund, 1834 Westfield Road, Mount Airy, N.C. 27030 or to Hospice of Surry County, 1326 N. Main St., Mount Airy, N.C. 27030.
