THE YEARLY AIDS WALK, TO HELP SERVICE GROUPS, IS PLANNED FOR NOV. 3

As many as 2,500 people are expected to take part in the annual Hampton Roads AIDS Walk for Life on Nov. 3, organizers said this weekend.

``Interest in this year's walk has been phenomenal,'' said Kyle Taylor of Norfolk, the walk's founder.

The walk, which has become the region's single largest fund-raiserfor local AIDS support and service organizations, will be held in Norfolk and Hampton.

``Every year it becomes more imperative to support the organizations that work for people with HIV and AIDS,'' said Mark Budrock, the walk president.

This year's goal is $100,000, about 30 percent higher than last year.

Proceeds will benefit several area AIDS service groups, including the planned Maurus House, the region's first residential hospice for impoverished people with AIDS who have less than six months to live.

To be located in a house owned by St. Gregory's Catholic Church of Virginia Beach, plans are to open the facility in mid-1997.

The 8-kilometer AIDS Walk will begin at the Taiwanese Pagoda in Norfolk and at Queenswat Mall in Hampton. An 8-kilometer run will be held the same day on the Norfolk walk route.

Participants get per-mile pledges from sponsors. For more information, call 531-AIDS. by CNB
