It was inevitable that Chesapeake's Civic and Conference Center would receive negative public comments and publicity.
There are many public benefits associated with the proposed convention center; however, the city's governance structure failed to add legitimacy to the process by the manner in which the decisions for building and funding were made. Some residents believe that there was a failure to assure that different points of view were aired, considered, challenged and revised.
Now that the contract has been signed to build and lease the Conference Center, it is time to focus on the benefits that Chesapeake stands to gain.
