Wilson Farrell Vellines Sr., 81, of the 200 block of 41st St., died Oct. 12, 1996, after a lengthy illness.
A native of Norfolk, he was the son of the late Wilson W. Vellines and the late Mrs. Bruce Wright. He graduated from Maury High School and attended Washington and Lee University on a golf scholarship. He was a former champion of the Norfolk Golf Club and Princess Anne Country Club, and with his partner, Sam Bates, was a Virginia High School League Golf Champion. Mr. Vellines was very active for many years as a manufacturer's representative in the soft drink industry until his retirement.
He was a lifelong member of Ghent United Methodist Church, Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, the Cosmopolitan Club, Pyramid Club, Ruth Masonic Lodge (NU)89 and actively participated in the Meals on Wheels Program.
Survivors include his wife, Mary H. Vellines; a daughter, Mary Karen Vellines of Clinton, N.Y.; a son, Wilson F. Vellines Jr. of Staunton, Va.; a sister, Norma Eley of Norfolk; a brother, Jack Vellines of Norfolk; and three grandchildren, Farrell P. Burns, Eliza S. Vellines and Meredith A. Vellines.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Ghent United Methodist Church by the Rev. H. Leroy Seibert. The family will receive friends in their residence today from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Ghent United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice. Cox Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
